Yuleba Substation Civil Works

UGL Infrastructure for Powerlink Queensland

Yuleba, Queensland

$10 Million

Following successful involvement in the Orana, Wotonga and Western Downs Substation projects, ALLROADS recently commenced works on our fourth substation civil works contract with UGL Infrastructure; Powerlink Queensland’s Yuleba Substation.  Yuleba Substation will become the main hub in the new Power Transmission network in the Western Region.

When works commenced, ALLROADS sent a 20-strong project team headed by experienced ALLROADS General Manager Scott Jefferson and Construction Supervisor Mark Fulton. The project afforded ALLROADS the opportunity to draw on our extensive range of plant and highly skilled operators, enabling us to mobilise quickly and work more efficiently.

The contract was broken into two stages and covered a broad scope of works including: 140,000 m3 of cut-fill earthworks, roadworks, platform surfacing, 1200m of stormwater drainage, 13km of trenching for earth grid, kerbs, asphalt surfacing and a 5km access road with multi-cell box culverts into Yuleba Substation.

During the preliminary fauna investigation survey, ALLROADS discovered an unusually high population density of Golden-Tailed Geckos, a highly endangered species. This habitat had not been identified by any previous fauna surveys and thus ALLROADS engaged with Red Sand Ecology to highlight the importance to all stakeholders of preserving this essential habitat and of establishing techniques which can now be used on other sites to increase the population density of this near-threatened endangered species.
