Yarrabilba State High School Civil Works

In February 2019, ALLROADS were contracted by Broad Construction to deliver Civil Works for a new secondary school in the Yarrabilba Master Planned Development.

Construction works under the contract included bulk earthworks, detailed excavation, civil drainage, sandstone retaining walls, access roads and car parks and building pad pavement.

Demonstrating innovative, “on the go” thinking to the project delivery, large scale stormwater design changes were incorporated into the planning of the works whilst construction was progressing.

An accelerated bulk earthworks program was also  implemented to ensure building pad handover dates were met regardless of latent conditions.

The encountering of unsuitable materials and hard rock also raised challenges during the project delivery. This necessitated controlled sequencing of works and mobilisation of larger plant to limit time impacts.

The project site was located in a Fire Ant Zone. Therefore to ensure the prevention and spread of Fire Ants, and that ALLROADS met community and regulatory expectations, detailed control strategies were developed and employed as part of the Environmental Management Plan.

As the works was ultimately part of a State Government funded project, ALLROADS QHSE Management Systems were implemented to ensure the works were delivered the specification of both the client and all key stakeholders.

  • 130,000m3 bulk earthworks involving export of approximately 59,000m3 of Fire Ant carrying materials within Biosecurity Zone 2

  • 2.2km of civil drainage pipelines and 60 stormwater structures including numerous Humeceptor hydrodynamic stormwater treatment systems and Bio Basins

  • 12,000t granular pavement material imported and placed for building pads, car parks, service roads and laydown areas including asphaltic concrete surfacing, line marking and kerb and channel drainage

  • An additional building footings and slabs detailed excavation package awarded during construction works

  • Construction of 1,600m2 Sandstone retaining walls (up to 4m height) including design and certification
