To ensure supply of power to the APLNG gas processing facility south of Chinchilla, Powerlink announced in that it would construct a new substation and short transmission line; Orana Substation.
As part of the new substation construction, ALLROADS were awarded the contract by Principal Contractor, UGL Infrastructure, to undertake all civil works for the project.
There were two separate packages of works; the first being over $3 million of Bulk Earthworks. The second package of Civil Works was then undertaken following UGL’s installation of the substation structure.
Across both packages works included: site clearing and earthworks, stormwater and associated pits, excavation, subsoils, kerb and channel, earth grid and trenching and over 1km of internal roads.
Strict environmental and quality controls were required for the works, both to ensure the safe removal and relocation of any existing flora and fauna and the quality of the large quantities of imported fill.
Both packages of works were completed on time and within their specified timeframes to ensure UGL Infrastructure met its overall project timeline.
Over 3 hectares of site clearing
Over 70,000t of imported fill for substation pad
400m of open drains and multiple culvert crossings
Over 1km of internal roads constructed.
