mount nebo road safety upgrade

Moreton Bay Regional Council

Mount Nebo, Qld

$1.2 million

As part of the Federal Government Transport Infrastructure Development Scheme – Black Spot Program, ALLROADS were contracted by Moreton Bay Regional Council to upgrade two Sections of Mount Nebo Road to improve road safety for all users.

The first location was 1044 Mount Nebo Road, Jolly’s Lookout, with works at this section including road widening on the outside of a bend. The other location was at the intersection of Darcy Kelly Road and Mount Nebo Road and included road widening of the curve.

Traffic management provided many challenges in delivering the project. Works were constructed under live traffic conditions and involved strategic staging to mitigate any impact to localised traffic (including pedestrian).

In addition, tight existing lane widths (2.5m – 2.7m) and maintaining single lane flow during pavement excavation and reconstruction also required strategic planning and execution. ALLROADS solved this issue by installing an additional temporary widening of the road to allow traffic enough room to navigate through the work site. This was an ALLROADS initiative undertaken at no cost to the client.

As works were adjacent to steep batter drop offs, this presented issues with unbound pavement construction and compaction at the edge of the existing batters. ALLROADS overcame these issues by working with Council and the designer, resulting with the adoption of an alternative pavement construction. This alternate construction included the installation of deeplift AC to the both sections of the project.

ALLROADS detailed program and construction methodology ensured construction works were delivered on time and within budget.

  • Construction and concrete lining of 80m of open drains

  • 96m of kerb installation on tight radius bends

  • 300m3 of profiling of existing asphalt & granular pavement

  • Over 200m3 of earthworks in rock & batter trimming

  • Over 1,000t of unbound pavement installation

  • Soil Nail and Batter stabilisation to a 25m section of Mt Nebo Road

  • Over 400t of asphalt pavement placement

  • 150m of guardrail installation
