St Lucia, QLD
In March 2019 ALLROADS were awarded the contract to upgrade the Gailey Road and Sir Fred Schonell Drive signalised intersection in St Lucia to increase safety and decrease travel time for all road users.
Central to the project was extending the length of the right turn lane from Gailey Road into Sir Fred Schonell Drive to allow for additional vehicle queue lengths. The project also included upgrades to the Gailey Road inbound bus stop, pedestrian paths, changes to intersection traffic signals and street lighting.
Construction works performed under the contract included; relocation of an existing fibre communication service, clearing and grubbing, earthworks, granular pavements, kerb and channel, concrete footpaths, mortar rock retaining wall, handrail, Translink bus stop, landscaping, line marking, signage, traffic signals, street lighting, ITS and asphalt works including overlay.
Given the high volume of traffic on the road, careful planning and staging of the works were required to ensure minimal impact to road users and the public.
A combination of day and night shift works and strategic traffic management staging ensured the project was completed successfully and delivered on time.
