Ballin Drive Detention Basin Construction
- Toowoomba Regional Council
- $3.0 million
- Centenary Heights, QLD
ALLROADS were awarded the contract to construct the 40ML Detention Basin by project Consultants AECOM.
The project involved substantial earthworks to construct the detention basin, installation of a single 1200mm by 1200mm culvert, creek rehabilitation works and extensive landscaping. A temporary creek diversion was also constructed along the Ballin Drive side.
ALLROADS undertook significant environmental planning and engaged experts, O2 Environmental services and Perfect Earth to collaborate with ALLROADS to assist in delivering the works within a live creek and sensitive flora and fauna environment. Turbid Water Solutions assisted with advice and management of water quality control and discharge, to mitigate impact on the surrounding environment and waterways.
The majority of the construction works were undertaken below the existing water table, adding a further degree of difficulty. Construction of the new D&C Bridge foundations were below the water table and required specialist Ausiplie to bore the piers using temporary liners. The construction of the Dam cut off key also below the water table and the low flow RCBC required staging and control of water levels during construction phases.
