Blackwall, Queensland
$2.9 Million
ALLROADS were awarded the contract to relocate the existing Allawah Road to allow space for the future extension of Powerlinks’ Blackwall Switchyard.
The scope of works included four sections: Preliminaries, Earthworks, Roadworks and Stormwater Drainage and saw the construction of over 750m of a new two-lane road. In addition a visual screening barrier was constructed to block out views from adjacent residents.
Due to the alignment of the road being subject to flooding, there was a requirement for the elevation to be in line with Brisbane City Council flood level requirements. To ensure this requirement was met, ALLROADS installed a number of major stormwater culverts.
Works also required strict environmental controls given the sites proximity to the Brisbane River and location within a Koala Habitat and therefore required close community liaison to minimise any impact to surrounding residences.
Through efficient and effective planning and a “hands on” project management approach, the works were completed on budget, to the specifications of Powerlink, Council and DTMR and ahead of schedule; with the original 16 week program of works being completed in just 12 weeks.
